Ramblings

Last night I played the drums for a winter ball for mentally disabled people. It's the second year I've done this and it's pretty fun for a variety of reasons: 1. mentally handicapped people love to dance! so they're very appreciative 2. The guys I play with are fun and we play standards from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Most of the time we just jam. 3. I get a microphone! Yep, they let me sing. I know I'm not a tremendous singer, but I can hang in that crowd.

I also brought Dash with me. We played 2 sets that were 45min-1hour. The first set, Dash sat off to the side of the stage and watched us play and watched the people dance. He was perfect. During the second set, he came up onto the stage and sat down next to me and hung out until the last 3 songs. Our last 3 were pretty lively (Last Train to Clarksville, Johnny B Goode, and Takin' Care of Buisness I think) and I'm not even close to joking about this, but Dash wailed on the "air-guitar" for 3 straight songs like he was an actual member of the band! It was soooo awesome! At one point, Dash, the other 2 guitarists, and the bassist had formed a 4-person circle and were taking turns doing the leads. Dash had the fingers, the stance, the strumming and all the right moves! We were all busting up at how cool it was. Thank you Guitar Hero! (The picture of Dash jamming is from something different. But was equally as cool.)

Thanksgiving this year was bittersweet. My mom's family was all together, cousins included (except Karisa and her hubby and child). This has maybe happened once in the last 8-9 years or so I think. So that was great. Really great. An answer to a prayer I've been praying for about 8-9 years now. I really do have a great family. But Dash and Kaed were in Arizona with Leah and some of her family. Everyone was there except them. With Kaed, there was always an expectation of "every-other" holiday, but not with Dash. This was the "first" real holiday since Leah left and I had more than a couple moments. I can understand why some people hate the holidays. They can be awesome, and they can be awesomely depressing too. Next up....Christmas!....

Keith Lee gave me a Christmas light star for my house. I have it hanging off my deck and it can be seen from pretty far away. Thank you Keith!
A student is letting me borrow her Twilight books... I don't feel a huge burning need to read these books (they're big!), but it's all I hear about at school! So I'll give it a shot. I'll try anything twice.
